For your enjoyment and edification I present to you the 1982-1983 Tru-Balance Knife Company catalog that Harry K. McEvoy sent to me when I was young whippersnapper selling knives to make my way through college: Continue reading Tru-Bal Catalog from 1982-1983
This is an early Model No. 1 Professional throwing knife from Tru-Balance that I picked up a few years ago. This model was made by Harry K. McEvoy for 30 years from 1953 to 1983 when he sold the design to Tru-Bal West along with some others. By then he was no longer putting the hole in it. Early models like this example have a hole in the blade near the handle. The model no. 1 that I bought from Harry in 1983 did not. Another give-away that this is an early model is the style of sheath it comes with which has a different quality of leather that is much softer than the leather used in later years and is put together with only rivets and no stitching. This sheath is also much narrower than their one-size-fits-all sheaths they began making later. It fits this knife like a glove.
This one is certainly not pristine but it’s not in absolutely terrible shape. It’s been used and has the standard black pitting on the blade, but no rust. The handle shows some wear and has a few scrapes and dings. The blade has been sharpened which will make throwing this by the blade a bad idea. Because of it’s rarity it is still highly desirable and collectible but you could still go try it out on a target in the back yard and not risk losing any value if you aren’t too crazy about it.
You can see an advertisement from a vintage Corrado Knife Album No. 68 which shows the early “Professional” model with the hole in it…
This is a fine, rugged all-purpose knife especially designed and balanced for throwing by handle OR blade as well as for general use as a hunting, survival and camp knife. Made to the same high standards as all Tru-Bal knives. Continue reading Model No. 7 AMERICAN HUNTER

Last year they had a great time with world famous throwers Che Che White Cloud and Dick Haines. Martial Art’s Master and Author Amante (Mat) P. Marinas was also in attendance. Joe says they had a great time with all participants receiving some sort of nice prize of a Knife or Tomahawk.
All contestants and anyone wishing to learn to throw will be required to sign a waiver. There will be some space available on site for camping and there are a bunch of hotels nearby. If you are coming and need to make hotel arrangements look in the 19312 zip code area or King Of Prussia PA. area, zip code 19406 which is about 10 minutes away.
The actual physical address of the throw will be 260 Leopard Rd. Berwyn, PA. 19312, this is about 15 minutes from the Valley Forge exit of the PA. Turnpike exit 326, all are welcome!
It should be a good time with friends we don’t see that often. Please email Joe Darrah with any questions or comments.
