This is one of only a small known handful of custom knives made with a cross-guard by Harry K. McEvoy, Jr. of the Tru-Balance Knife Company. It came with a very interesting origin story that says it was made for the controversial martial artist figure, Frank Dux of Bloodsport fame that, unfortunately is just not true. Frank Dux made no such claims himself, but others tried to tie this knife to him, perhaps in order to boost it’s reputation. Continue reading The Odd History of the Tru-Bal “C. W. Dux Combat Bowie”

Last year they had a great time with world famous throwers Che Che White Cloud and Dick Haines. Martial Art’s Master and Author Amante (Mat) P. Marinas was also in attendance. Joe says they had a great time with all participants receiving some sort of nice prize of a Knife or Tomahawk.
All contestants and anyone wishing to learn to throw will be required to sign a waiver. There will be some space available on site for camping and there are a bunch of hotels nearby. If you are coming and need to make hotel arrangements look in the 19312 zip code area or King Of Prussia PA. area, zip code 19406 which is about 10 minutes away.
The actual physical address of the throw will be 260 Leopard Rd. Berwyn, PA. 19312, this is about 15 minutes from the Valley Forge exit of the PA. Turnpike exit 326, all are welcome!
It should be a good time with friends we don’t see that often. Please email Joe Darrah with any questions or comments.

I was just outside throwing my new Brokenfeather tomahawk from Joe Darrah. He just sent it to me and it’s a beauty! He made it to match the “Bullseye Seeker” mountain man bowie he made me several months ago. Since I don’t have any Tru-Bal throwing knives with leather handles (yet) I used this knife in New Mexico for my first mountain man style throwing competition where I took second place in the amateur division. Not bad for my first official throw!

I was able to attend my first real throwing knife competition…as a spectator…this past weekend. The Rocky Mountain Knife and Tomahawk Competition was held in Creede, Colorado on June 27-28, 2009. It was just a short five-and-a-half hour drive through some of the most beautiful Colorado scenery I’ve seen in a long time.

Last night we were supposed to get about two feet of snow. We didn’t get quite that much but we got a bunch!
If you’ve become even semi-serious about knife throwing then you’ve probably heard of the International Knife Throwers Hall Of Fame Association. They’ve been around since 2003 when they were founded and are located in Austin, Texas. Every year they hold the World Championships there.
Today I received my latest order of Tru-Bal Throwing Knives. Six of these beauties are already spoken for and are on their way to their new owners. Get your very own Tru-Bal throwing knives before they’re gone or else you’ll have to wait until next time!
